FIGURATIVE DRAWING
EGON SCHIELE Schiele's controversial art questioned the line between nude portraits and pornography. His art focuses on the sexuality of the human form although many of his peer saw him as a pornographer. If you're able to see past the initial attention towards sex his work in fact originates beautiful nude figures. I feel he overt's confidence which shines throughout his work. He illustrates the female body with no hesitation, confronting the women's sexuality and their power. Not afraid of pushing the boundaries of art and society to achieve what he desires. Professional models were rarely used alternatively he'd pay prostitutes to pose in unconventional positions. While this would allow him to achieve portraits that portrayed openness, was this just a step to far leading further to pornography then tasteful art? I myself am completely torn; as I feel his decisions to use vulnerable models, young children and prostitutes was crossing a barrier. However without doubt he had a raw talent, his ability to capture emotive expression shaped his rare style. | PENCIL ON ACRYLIC |
